The Garden City Casino Construction Webcam

Image updates every five minutes

Technical Details

This is the view outside the window at my office. Sort of. The site of the new hotel and cardroom that they are building is about half a mile away, so I had to MacGyver a telephoto webcam togeether from a Chatcam HD and half a pair of cheap binoculars. The image quality isn't spectacular, but considering how little I spent on it I'm pretty happy with how well it actually works.

The webcam only updates from 7 AM to 7 PM. There isn't much to look at after hours when it's dark outside.

It went online on the first day of summer, serving its very first image at 7:35 AM on June 21st.

Commenting On This Page

You can't comment on this page. Capricorn.org is carefully crafted from the finest web technology that 1998 has to offer. I have an animated GIF and a meta refresh for Christ's sake! Have you seen the server that this thing runs on? It's practically an antique! Whenever the system goes down I have to put all of the vacuum tubes into a paper sack and drive them down to the local Radio Shack to use their tube tester. Every time you click on one of those links on the side of the page, a technician has to take the stairs down to the basement and mount the corresponding 9-track data tape in the open reel tape drive so that the server can access the data which you are looking for.

So no, you can't comment on this page. You can't even hack into the server and edit the page yourself, because once you are in you will discover that I edit everything with vi, and if you are such a nerd that you know how to use vi then you probably have a decent paying job administrating VMS machines or something, and you have better things to do than hack my crummy website.

No comments for you. Go back to Facebook and complain about it to all your Friends™. I could probably use the publicity.
